Left her native underground city to the surface of her world in 2371, where she was captured and abused by members of Delta Quadrant species known as Kazon-Ogla. Rescued thereafter, with aid of her companion Neelix, by crew of U.S.S. Voyager shortly after it was swept into Delta Quadrant by alien entity. Following information received through recent holographic transmission from Voyager to Alpha Quadrant: Kes invited to join decimated Voyager crew by Captain Kathryn Janeway. Shortly after Stardate 48439.7, Kes undertook project to convert Cargo Bay 2 of the ship into a hydroponics and airponics farm to cultivate food for crew. On stardate 48532.3, Kes donated a lung to fellow crewman Neelix, when his were stolen by alien Vidiians. Shortly after stardate 48532.4, Kes began training under ship's Emergency Medical Hologram as a medical assistant. With eidetic memory and high intelligence, quickly became primary nurse and medical technician in sickbay, and served with distinction. In 2372, Kes learned from Lieutenant Tom Paris how to pilot a Federation shuttlecraft. Later that year, she studied Vulcan mind-control techniques with Lieutenant Tuvok to harness psychokinetic and telepathic powers. In 2373, she was possessed by Tieran of the Ilari, who transferred his neural pattern into her brain, as part of his unsuccessful bid to seize control of the Ilari government. Kes was able to use her own mental powers to break his control and allow the Voyager crew to capture him and remove his neural pattern. In late 2373, Kes's mental powers played an important role in Voyager's encounter with the Borg and Species 8472. Kes left Voyager for parts unknown shortly thereafter.
